Aiden at 9 months
It was a great pleasure to be able to do this shoot for dear friends of mine and their fourth child. Aiden has got to be one of the happiest children I have ever met. He didn’t fuss once during this hour long session and actually seemed to enjoy having the camera pointed at him (potential future heart-breaker in the making).
Technically, I started experimenting with directional lighting and can say that it adds dimension to these shots. They do not seem flat or stiff, but deep and lively. The principle is extremely simple but something you must force yourself to be aware. The light is hitting your subject from some direction, so you should stand and shoot in a way that is 65-90 degrees apart from the direction of the light source. Again it’s simple, but play with the angles and see the depth that it adds to your photos. Cheers!
